Follow Your Passion!

It’s the big question people ask you from the time you can speak until the day you graduate from high school or university. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Some people want to be firefighters, policemen/women, some people don’t want to grow up and stay Peter Pan forever.

Unfortunately, there comes a time when we do have to decide what to do with our lives. For some it comes easy, some it comes very hard, and some never find it and spend their lives trying to come to terms with missed opportunities.

I believe the best thing you can do for yourself is right now, go somewhere quiet with your own thoughts and find out what it is you’re good at, what you could see yourself doing for the rest of your life, and most importantly, something that isn’t a job. Spend your life doing something that doesn’t make you get up in the morning and wish you never had to go into work.

For example, if you always wanted to be in the army, what are you doing today to make that dream a reality? Are you afraid that you’re going to have to work hard both physically and mentally and that you can’t handle it? Don’t be ridiculous, your body is capable of way more than you can imagine.

Always wanted to be a hairstylist but don’t like the money? Stop thinking about the money. Life isn’t about the money. Life is about going out and giving it everything you have until you aren’t alive anymore! Live in the now! Do something today and take steps toward fulfilling your dreams.

A month… a year… ten years from now… are you going to regret the decisions you made to get to this point?

One Simple Trick to Boost Your Gains Today!

Slow and steady wins the race might be the biggest cliché in the history of the word cliché. However, if you relate it to your workouts you’ll find out why slow is the best way to make muscle gains fast. Tempo is the most overlooked aspect of training, and here’s why.

Most people want to lift as much weight in as little time as possible. It’s great for the ego, the chicks (or guys) are looking at you and you feel great! There’s nothing wrong with feeling great, but this trick will help make you look better outside of the gym, too!

Next time you’re in the gym, focus on the tempo (how long it takes you to complete a repetition) and really stress the down phase of the movement. If you’re doing bicep curls, when you bring the weight down, try and take 3-4 seconds and really feel your muscles working. You’ll realize it’s way tougher than it is when you’re just throwing around the weights. Slow and controlled will get you farther than fast and sloppy every time!

Keep in mind that your body has no idea how much weight you’re lifting; it only knows how much tension you’re putting those muscles under. If you can make a repetition last 5 seconds (1 second on the way up; 4 on the way down) you’re already on the right track to boosting muscle gains!

Next time check your ego at the door, lower the weight, and focus on form and the tension you put your muscles under. You’ll have the best workouts of your life, guaranteed!

Do You Eat As Good As You Think You Do?

For my very first blog post I want to write about just how important food is in getting the results you want. You hear it everywhere: nutrition is the most important part to getting lean and building muscle. So why is it that most people still eat pizzas, pop and chips, candy, throw in a chicken breast and call it a good day of eating?

I think there’s a big misconception out there that if you eat right only half the time, you will still get great results. This is probably true at first, but once you start to plateau from those gains you experienced from starting a new weight training program, you’ll plateau for months (years even!) until you switch things up and eat better!

It’s a lazy ass world out there. People want the quick fix. They want the shakes that supposedly help you lose 100lbs in 6 months and other gimmicky programs that let you eat what you want. Well I’m sorry, but while a calorie is still a calorie, what’s in that calorie is what’s more important.

From digestive enzymes to vitamins and minerals, what you’re eating is how you’re going to get the results you want. It’s as simple as that! Do people actually believe their cheeseburger with a piece of lettuce and a pickle is going to be healthy for them? That same piece of lettuce that’s been shipped on a truck for two weeks and sitting in greasy air all day?

I’ll be honest. Losing weight? Simple. Burning fat? Simple. It’s not easy, but there’s a simple formula for anything you want in life. You have to bust your butt to get whatever it is you want, but if you follow the formula it’s a piece of cake.

Start today by changing a few simple things. Lower the amount of fat you eat, only eat sweets on a night out, drink more water (I’ll talk about this in another blog post).
